Since the 1990s, TRI-BUILT has provided roofers with industry-leading material. Today, the TRI-BUILT catalog includes over 7,000 products, spanning a wide variety of categories for both residential and commercial roofing. With that kind of selection, it can be hard to pick favorites — but we didn't let that stop us!

We've selected three amazing TRI-BUILT products to highlight, with a focus on insulation and adhesives. Each of these products provides innovative, affordable solutions.

Add these three products to your arsenal, master best practices for using and installing them, and you'll have increased efficiency and stronger, more reliable roofing systems that stand the test of time.

1. TRI-BUILT ISO II GRF Roof Insulation

ISO is a commonly used term for a rigid foam insulation (polyisocyanate) sandwiched between a pair of face boards. TRI-BUILT's ISO II GRF boards use fiber-reinforced organic felt facers (GRF).

With minimal weight, it's easier to stock and install than materials with comparable R-values. Available in 4-by-8-foot or 4-by-4-foot sheets, with over 30 available thicknesses ranging from 1 to 4 inches, there's a sheet of TRI-BUILT ISO II GRF that's right for almost every scenario. It's also available in tapered versions, with slopes ranging from 1/8 to 1/2 inch to help ensure proper drainage, or with a coated glass face (CGF) for increased strength, enhanced water-resistance, and a longer lifespan than tradtional insulation.

This product can be used with single-ply systems, built-up roofs (BUR), modified bitumen and standing seam metal systems, whether they're ballasted, adhered or mechanically attached.

Installation is a breeze. Simply use a fastening system that matches the roofing material manufacturer's recommendations. Always keep insulation products dry before, during and after installation.

2. Millennium PG-1 EF ECO2 Foamable Adhesive

Foaming adhesives are seeing growing popularity among roofers. Foam has higher viscosity, making it easier to apply than a traditional liquid adhesive.

Millennium PG-1 EF ECO2 Foamable Adhesive is a two-component, low-rise foam adhesive with minimal environmental impact. Because it uses natural atmospheric gases as blowing agents, your project won't be dumping hydrofluorocarbons into the air.

Millennium PG-1 EF ECO2 is as close to a one-stop shop as you can get. It comes with two canisters (one for each component), an applicator, 25-foot hoses, four dual-purpose static mixers, a wrench, petroleum jelly and even a set of gloves.

The adhesive is far faster than using physical fasteners, setting in minutes without the risk of damaging the roof. And no fasteners means no thermal bridging, increasing energy efficiency.

To install, follow these steps:

  1. Do not apply in temperatures below 40°F.
  2. Clean the work surfaces of debris, oil and anything that could compromise adhesion or create an uneven surface. Note that the surfaces don't need to be perfectly flat, since the foam expands to fill minor irregularities.
  3. If you're applying over BURs, apply Millennium Universal Primer. Or, if applying to fresh asphalt or plastic film membranes, use Millennium Surface Treatment.
  4. Once the surface is prepped, apply the adhesive in 1- to 1.5-inch-wide beads or in a spatter application.

3. TRI-BUILT Bonding Adhesive

If you simply need a traditional roll-on or spray application, TRI-BUILT EPDM/TPO Bonding Adhesive is a solvent-based contact adhesive specifically formulated to adhere to EPDM and TPO roofing.

TRI-BUILT bonding adhesive being applied to a commercial roof

TRI-BUILT Bonding Adhesive provides a reliable bond with a wide range of substrates. It can be applied using a solvent-resistant roller, a sprayer or a commercial applicator. A gallon covers about 45 to 60 square feet, with porous surfaces requiring more than smoother, less absorptive substrates.

Begin application by drying and cleaning all surfaces. Be sure any solvent-based primers have dried. Thoroughly stir the adhesive to a consistent color, with no solids on the bottom. Stir again as needed throughout application.

Set the membrane in place, then fold a section back onto itself, exposing the substrate. Apply adhesive to both the substrate and the folded membrane section. Once the adhesive becomes tacky, roll the membrane back onto the substrate. Immediately apply pressure to achieve contact along the full surface.

If you know you'll be spraying the adhesive, consider using TRI-BUILT Sprayable Single-Ply Bonding Adhesive. It's formulated for excellent adhesion and rapid drying over a wide range of temperatures.

If you want to avoid strong-smelling adhesives or will be working in an OTC-regulated market, TRI-BUILT LVOC Single-Ply Bonding Adhesive uses low-VOC solvents.

Choosing the right materials saves time and money

Each of these TRI-BUILT products can ensure longer-lasting roofs, fewer callbacks and more profitable jobs. While paying for quality materials and training workers to use best practices isn't free, that cost and time is an investment — one that can pay out massive dividends over time.
